for King Durant de Angelosis, ruler of the Kingdom of Langington.
The massing of troops seems to have stabilized for the moment, but only because of the late snows of Winter's Thaw. King Durant de Angelosis the Fifth, ruler of the Kingdom of Langington, has constructed a large motte-and-bailey, and has set up station within the southeastern foothills standing between the Kienken and Fillian Mountain, along the road that travels through Trader's Gap, in what is now being called Durant's Hold. In all, King de Angelosis has over 70,000 troops at his disposal: 12,500 regular infantry led from the Miaford Commonwealth by Prince Khyle de Angelosis; 4,500 heavy and light Langington cavalry; more than 50,000 regular Langington infantry, levies, and retainers; 2,000 Dervish warriors, cousins to the Dervatear, who traveled from the nation of Torresan to aid in King de Angelosis' fight; and more than 125 wizards, priests, and druids who have offered their assistance where needed.
It is known that King Tearsac of the Plains, ruler of the Province of Arvandus, has gathered together a force no greater than 32,500 within the north central foothills of the Kienken and Fillian Mountains, where the merchant road travels into Trader's Gap. Little is known of the composition of this army, save that there are at least 80 mountain giants and more than 6,000 orcs and goblinkind employed by King Tearsac.
To the west, King Tearsac has massed more than 50,000 regular infantry and cavalry along the Independent State/Arvandus border. Within the Independent State itself, lords loyal to King Tearsac have been able to gather together more than 4,000 regular infantry who have taken up position along the road leading to the town of Savoy, just outside of the Tenet Woods.
Stationed on the opposite side of the Independent State/Arvandus border is King Dommic Stonefast, ruler of Tsan, and his Dervatear army of 39,500: 35,750 Dervatear warriors and Axemasters, 3,650 WarPriests, and 100 BattleMages, with more Dervatear troops on there way. A smaller army of 3,000 Dervatear have positioned themselves just inside the Tenet Woods, able to remain hidden while keeping on eye on the more than 4,000 Arvandian loyalists positioned along the road.
To the north of Arvandus and across the Inner Sea, King Rhyus Gatau "The Lion," ruler of the Kingdom of Jordyen, continues to prepare his troops for an assault against Arvandian warships and the northern coast of the Province itself. To date, King Gatau has complete control of the Inner Sea, as well as total control of the Inner Islands and the Arvandian Isles, save the island of Isenthawl. Although the numbers seem to change daily, it is believed that King Gatau has more than 250 warships upon the waters of the Inner Sea--the entire Arvandian fleet--while it is thought that King Tearsac is in command of no more than 80 warships himself.
Despite the fact that it is not known how many regular infantry and cavalry King Gatau has gathered (although the number is sure to be in excess of 50,000), it is known that the ruler of the Kingdom of Jordyen has dispatched another 5,000 regular infantry north to assist in the continuing siege against the Jordanian city of Walshemdale. To date, King Gatau has lost more than 6,000 soldiers and countless Jordanian citizens to the barbarian army from the Northlands and their frost giant comrades. Figures are sketchy, although it is believed that the invading force is comprised of more than 30,000 Northland barbarians and well over 50 frost giants (twice as many as was believed twenty days back). The reason for their attack and siege against Walshemdale is still unknown; however, King Gatau has pledged that no Jordanian city, either along the northern borders or the southern coasts, will fall to enemy forces. Envoys from Isis, the capital of the Northlands, have yet to respond to King Gatau's numerous messages.
For the moment, all is at a stand still. The heavy snows and frozen rains of Winter's Thaw and Early Dusk have stopped advancing forces in their paths. All wonder what will happen when those snows thaw out, and the roads become accessible.
